Language Program
Español al Sur offers five Spanish levels and several
courses for specific purposes. In the following list you find
a short description of the different course types.
Spanish
for Travellers ("Crash Course"), Beginner's
Course I (Elementary), Beginner's
Course II, Intermediate
I, Intermediate
II, Advanced,
Communicative
Spanish, Spanish
for specific purposes (business, literature, DELE preparation),
Spanish for professional internships/volounteer projects.
In our Spanish courses Spanish will be the main language
of instruction. If you want to apply for a Spanish course
held in another language, please, ask for availability and
beginning. Before starting the Spanish a written and oral
placement test is required.
Spanish
for Travellers ("Crash Course"): This
course is designed for people who want to travel throughout
South America, or just began their trip in Buenos Aires, and
like to get a basic knowledge of the language spoken on this
continent. You learn how to express yourself in daily situations
of a travelling person.
Duration: 1-4 weeks
Course form: in group or individual
Beginner's
Course I (Elementary): You will learn to use most
day-to-day structures. Through a communicative functional
approach you will apply the newly acquired structures, vocabulary
and grammar correctly.
Grammar items: numbers, negation and negative words, personal
pronouns, gender and number of nouns and adjectives, present
and past tense of some regular and irregular verbs, future
with ir + a + inf., reflexive verbs, imperative.
Duration: 4 weeks
Course form: in group
Beginner's
Course II: Beginning course in Spanish which emphasizes
ability to communicate orally on a variety of topics at a
basic level that will emphasize the acquisition of grammatical
structures and vocabulary through an active process of participation;
it will focus on listening comprehension, correct pronunciation
and cultural knowledge.
Grammar items: more irregular verbs; reflexive verbs; estar
and tener to describe states, indir. obj. pronouns, past tenses
of regular and irregular verbs (Perfécto simple, compuesto,
Imperfecto, Plusquamperfécto), por and para, estar
+ Gerundio
Duration: 4 weeks
Course form: in group
Intermediate
I: You will apply structures learned up to date
as well as newly acquired structures,vocabulary, everyday
topics to different contexts related to culture. Drills and
activities to develop conversational skills. Short compositions
and group presentations based on selected cultural readings.
This course offers you an opportunity to reinforce and expand
previous learning in grammar, comprehension, oral and written
skills, and vocabulary.
Grammar items: subjunctive tenses and indicators, future tense,
personal pronouns and imperative
Duration: 4 weeks
Course form: in group
Intermediate
II: This course continues the focus upon the fluency
and idiomatic use of Spanish. Selected readings will be used
to study literary tenses and to increase vocabulary. The course
will include conversations, discussions, compositions, audio,
etc, in order to improve language skills and comprehension.
Grammar items: Subjunctive tense II (Imperfecto de sujuntivo),
Conditional, construction and tenses with "si"
Duration: 4 weeks
Course form: in group or individual
Advanced:
This course is designed to improve grammatical skills necessary
for effective speaking and writing in Spanish.
The purpose of the course is to immerse you in a Spanish speaking
environment that becomes the setting for true communication
and cultural exchange. You will reinforce and expand the use
of the grammar structures at an advanced level in order to
improve their language skills.
Grammar items: indirect speech, passive tense
Duration: 2-4 weeks
Course form: in group or individual
Communicative
Spanish: Designed to enable your fluidity
of the language with emphasis on the four skills: reading,
writing, speaking and listening. Emphasis will be placed on
vocabulary building, the use of idiomatic expressions, correct
pronunciation and intonation, grammar review and assignments
to improve correct usage of written Spanish.
Course form: individual or in group
Spanish for
specific purposes (business,
literature and culture, DELE preparation):
You will learn a specific vocabulary for a specific purpose
with the relevant grammar items.
Spanish for
professional internships and volounteer projects:
As a preparation for your intership/volounteer project we
offer an intensive Spanish course as well as additional Spanish
classes during your internship/volounteer project.
The aim of all professional internships is to acquire professional
experience in the area that most interests you within a top
class company, and to make contact with the personnel themselves;
who will really help to consolidate your knowledge of the
spanish language, getting to know a new culture and working
