De "Para las seis cuerdas"
Jorge Luis Borges
Y la ciudad ahora es como un plano
De mis humillaciones y fracasos;
El fruto que le debe la mañana;
Aquí mi sombra en la no menos vana
Sombra final se perderá, ligera.
No nos une el amor sino el espanto;
Será por eso que la quiero tanto.
Compared to other metropolis of South America, Buenos Aires
is considered a very European city. This peculiarity results
from the huge number of European immigrants, who kept their
customs and culture alive. On the other hand, the people of
Buenos Aires always showed a big interest in Europe. These
two elements give Buenos Aires a very European appearance.
But not only. Because Buenos Aires developed its own version
of "European" culture, which is last but not least
just part of the culture of Buenos Aires.
Not only Tango was born here, Buenos Aires considers itself
a cultural hot spot, where music, theatre, cinema, or any
kind of artistic activity has got a big importance and significance.
We all know Carlos Gardel, but there are also the famous writers
Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortázar.
In Buenos Aires you can enjoy an incredible cultural variety
of concerts, theatres, cinemas, book presentations...
It's worth discovering the town and its cultural corners.
